At the beginning of the last century, two of the greatest names of the day, Vardon and Colt, got together to design the classic parkland course layout that was to become known as Copt Heath Golf Club.
The Club was founded in 1908 by the late Alfred Lovekin, to whom the estate on which the course is situated belonged. The beginnings were small, and the membership purely local, but things went so well that the nine-hole course was considered inadequate and under the supervision of Harry Vardon, an eighteen-hole course was laid out.
