On Thursday 27th March 2025, 32 members of the Club Team played in the Pre-Season Loosener at Beau Desert Golf Club.
Meeting early for Coffee & Bacon Baps the Teams headed to the 1st Tee from 10.30am.
We were very lucky with the weather with sunshine pretty much a constant throughout the day. The course is always a pleasure to play in a fantastic wooded setting and great views. The course was in good condition with the rare exception of the greens which had had a bad case of Fusarium back in November and were still recovering…but still very fast and hard to read (not a flat put out there).
It was a Fourball Better Ball format with 2 scores to count and 4 on the 18th (I am told the Green is the size of a football pitch?…or maybe just feels like it!). There were also 3 Nearest The Pins and a Long Drive hole.
After beers on the terrace we were served a great selection of sandwiches and chips by Nicky and Ruby. I then finished off the Heads & Tails competition from the End of Season Bash (Doddy was gagged).
Phil Carter was the winner of a Dozen TP5s.
Prize Winners:
Closest to the Pin Prizes went to Mike 'sniper' Topliss on the 16th and he also chipped in for NTP in two on the 9th for an Eagle.
Mike T won the Long Drive prize too on the 14th. Well done Mike!!
Phil Carter won the NTP prize on the 7th
Despite the course being tough there were some decent Team scores in a tightly run contest.
In 3rd Place was Martin Wyatt, Bob Ellis, Nick Brayshaw, Andy Foulkes - 85 pts
In 2nd Place was Phil Carter, Stanley Cook, Steve Pearce, John Graham - 85 pts
In 1st Place was Steve Lyth, Aspi Mobed. Chris Gregory, Shane Dodd - 87 pts
Well done boys…a great knock around a difficult Beau Desert.
The Birdie Challenge also commenced and the challenge for the year is to prise the Birdie Cup off Steve 'The Heron' Kentish who has won it for the last 2 years. We had 17 birdies on the day with:
2 from David Walker, Mike Topliss and Phil Carter
1 from Aspi, Mark Hicks, Stu Moment, David Payne, Steve Pearce, Ian Davidson, Martin W, me, Nick B, Finnian, Steve Lyth and Steven Skakel…..a good start and ahead of 'The Heron……for now.
Thanks everyone for showing up in numbers for the Club Team and again apologies to the others who had registered but 32 is the maximum that Beau Desert will take for a Society on a daily basis.
Glad you all had a good day.
First match is vs Stourbridge on Tuesday 1st April.
Looking forward to an enjoyable Club Team 2025 Season
