Rotary Club of Knowle and Dorridge Charity Pro-Am golf competition report.

The weather, which initially looked like rain, turned into brilliant sunshine on the Copt Heath Golf Course. Players commenting that it was in superbly prepared, in terrific condition and beautifully presented under the guidance of Course Manager Tom Flavelle.

£5,200 was raised during the day with income from entry fees, auction and the raffle. Marie Curie Solihull and the Acorns Childrens Hospice will be sharing the charitable proceeds.

James Whatley, from the East Midlands Golf Academy, recorded a 6 under par score to win the tournament whilst James Wilkes led his team from Mickleover Golf Club to a close team win decided on countback, each recording 87 stableford points, against Paul Streeter and the team from Schmidt Kitchens (Knowle). A significant contribution from James being a Hole in One on the 13th.

As the players returned to the clubhouse it became clear that the competition had been intense. Following a well-earned beer, the dinner was served by and enjoyed by all. The anticipation was growing as it was clear that the scores were remarkably close. With the professional assistance of Will Dunn and his team from the PGA, the scores were finalised, and the scene was set to announce the winners.
