The 41st Peter McEvoy Trophy

Copt Heath Golf Club, 1st & 2nd September 2022

The 2022 Tournament was held at Copt Heath Golf Club on the 1st & 2nd September 2022

Jack Lee from Rochester and Cobham Golf Club won the 41st Peter McEvoy Trophy with a four round total of 280; 4 under par.

Jack had a 2 shot lead with a first round 66 but after shooting 75 in the second round and dropping a further 5 shots in the first 11 holes of his third round he looked to have played his way out of contention. But he regained momentum with a blitz of 5 birdies in 6 holes and a run of eagle, birdie, birdie through 7,8,9 in round four saw him retake the lead - a position he never lost.

Leading the charge for the girls was 15-year-old England International, Isla McDonald-O’Brien from Shrewsbury who finished 2nd on 284; level par. Ben Brown, an England Boy International was a shot further back in 3rd and Morgan Blythe was 4th after a stunning final round of 64 – the best of the week.

Day 1
Day 2

We had a very strong field this year with the cut off for entry being  +1 handicap and the best handicap being +6. The players were tested by a firm course with quick greens, challenging pin placements and gusting winds. They learnt that golf courses are not just about length as the 36-hole cut came at 151; 9 over par.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped over the days of the tournament and special mention to Tom, Ian and the rest of the green staff who worked tirelessly to present the course in great condition. We received many compliments from competitors and parents about the course and general organisation.

2023

The tournament next year will be held on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th April.
For many years pre-Covid, the McEvoy was the traditional curtain raiser for the junior golfing season and a return to April puts us back in that position.
