Following a couple of recent losses, the club team enjoyed an away win at Maxstoke Park. On a sunny afternoon in near perfect conditions the team came through 4 : 2. Full match scores on the website.

As ever at Maxstoke, the course was beautifully presented with the greens running true and fair. A number of gorgeous ancient French Oaks, natural water features and a castle(!) make this a very picturesque venue. Maybe I was too busy taking in the scenery and not concentrating on the golf which could explain the result in my match.

As a result of the recent hot and dry spell, their green staff had left a little more grass on the greens than is customary so they were not as rapid as they were even earlier in the year.

The match was played in great spirit and we enjoyed a hearty meal afterwards with typical club team banter.

Sadly, captain Steve was again unable to play due to ongoing back issues but did attend to meet and greet at the beginning of proceedings. At the meal, we all agreed that he would have made four birdies had he been able to participate fully - but he is not going to be credited with them!

For the proper birdie count, congratulations go to Graham Barker (1), Chris Gregory (1), Roger Northam (2) and Terry Morgan (1).
