Copt Heath Golf Club |
Wed March 10 2010
This renowned private members’ golf club, ranked 94th best in England, was founded in 1907 by Alfred Lovekin, who had the foresight at the outset to engage Harry Vardon, whose original layout was subsequently enhanced by Harry S Colt, whose famous upswept bunker faces adorn the course on 96 occasions to trap the bad and, sometimes not so bad, shot. Over the years, the Club has flourished and has staged many top Professional and Amateur events and it still stages annually, in April, the Peter McEvoy Trophy (named in honour of probably its most famous member) for the best juniors in the Country and Europe. This event has produced many winners – Peter Baker, Lee Westwood, Brian Davis, Steve Webster & Justin Rose – who have gone on to have successful professional careers. The Club continues to thrive on the legacy created by its forebears and to enjoy the benefits so brilliantly described by Vardon. In short, anyone visiting the Club can be confident that they will have a very enjoyable game, where they will need to play well to achieve a good score, followed by a warm welcome in the well appointed clubhouse.
The Club welcomes entrants for the inaugural Men’s Open on 15th May 2010 and Mixed Open on 1st August 2010. Posters and entry forms can be viewed and downloaded by clicking on the stack on the left hand side of this page.
